The Lending Library
by Ashara Stansfield
Growing up surrounded by books, I have always loved to read, and feel most comfortable with bookshelves lined with books, and piles of books on my bedside table. But with my crazy, busy schedule, I often find it difficult to squeeze out the time to sit down and relax with a book. Even though I have few vices, it is a very dangerous situation to let me loose in a bookstore.  And of course, now that I am able to buy books online, there is no hope for me at all. Thus, over the years I have found myself with many books that I have purchased, waiting to be read.

This issue, I have decided to take a detour from my usual column to discuss a very important aspect of The Light Network. The Light Network lending library has become an invaluable source of information for many people over the past 5 1/2 years. Since I had some extra space in this issue, and the weather is turning colder, (conducive to curling up with a good book,) I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you a bit more about what the library has to offer.

The library began around the same time as The Light Network publication, in the spring of 1994. When I began this newsletter, my goal was to network with people of like mind, and to spread knowledge and inspiration to as many people as possible. What better way to do this, I thought, then to begin a lending library with the mountains of books I had accumulated? After all, I could only read one book at a time, and many other people could be reading the books that were sitting on the shelves, waiting for me to get to them. And so began the library. As you can see, the library has grown in leaps and bounds, as many people have donated the books, tapes and crystals they have lovingly outgrown.

Presently, there are over 1300 books divided into the following subjects:

Angels, Past Lives/Reincarnation, Self-Help, Dolphins, ETS/UFOS, Prosperity, Children, Tarot, Crystals, Earth/Nature, Egypt, Inspirational, Health/Healing, Bodywork, Crop Circles, Wicca, Sacred Geometry, Channeled/Channeling, Rituals, Fiction, Native American Studies, Relationships, Dreams, ESP, Astrology, Eastern Religions, Womens Studies, and Yoga, Tai Chi, etc., with more subjects being added all the time.
In addition to the books, there are over 500 audio tapes, over 200 video tapes, and over 100 crystals, all available to be taken out on loan.

The library is open by appointment, and the hours are very flexible. The items are signed out using the honor system, with voluntary donations being used to keep up the library. Donations of new or used books, tapes and crystals are always welcome.

The library contains many classic authors such as Edgar Cayce, Shirley MacLaine, Alice Baily, Bernie Siegal, and Louise Hay, as well as books that have just been published. The following is a sampling, highlighting just a few things that you may find in the library:

Call of the Dolphins, by Lana Miller:  a personal account of how a swim with these beautiful creatures can transform a life.

Windows of Light, by Randall N. and Vicki V. Baer: a comprehensive book explaining the use of quartz crystals as tools for healing, transformation and spiritual insight.

Mountains, Meadows and Moonbeams, by Mary Summer Rain: a great book to read to children to help them understand about spirituality, metaphysical ideas, and our place in the world.

Videos: The Flower of Life series, Joseph Campbell’s series, The Power of Myth, and Lazaris.

Audios: by such greats as Deepak Chopra, Caroline Myss, and Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Call and stop by the lending library to check it out! May you have a great holiday full of wonderful treasures.
In love and light,
