Changing Nameservers For Your Domain

This article describes how to change the nameservers for a domain registered here.

* Note that nameserver changes can sometimes take up to a day to propagate across the entire internet, it won't necessarily be instant.  Most parts of the internet will recognize the change of nameservers within several hours.

Method 1: Via the Domain Management Page (Easiest for a Single Domain)

This is the most common and direct way.

  1. Log in to your Client Area (via the “Account/Domain Management” link on our website). This is referring to the Client area for billing and domain management [https://www.photon.net/clients/], not cPanel.
  2. Click Domains in the top navigation menu, then select My Domains.
  3. Find the domain you want to update in the list.
  4. Click the Manage Domain button (or simply click the domain name itself).
  5. On the domain details page, look at the left sidebar menu (it may be labeled “Domain Details” or “Management”).
  6. Click Nameservers in the sidebar.
  7. Select Use custom nameservers
  8. Enter your new nameserver hostnames in the fields provided (e.g., ns1.yournewhost.com, ns2.yournewhost.com). You can usually enter up to 5 nameservers, but most setups require at least 2.
  9. Click Save Changes or Update Nameservers.

The change is sent immediately to the domain registrar.

Method 2: Using the “With Selected” Bulk Option (Works for One or Multiple Domains)

Use this if you prefer a checklist-style approach or want to update several domains at once.

  1. Log in to the Client Area.
  2. Go to DomainsMy Domains.
  3. Tick the checkbox(es) next to the domain(s) you want to update.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
  5. In the With Selected dropdown menu, choose Manage Nameservers.
  6. On the next screen, select Use custom nameservers and enter your new nameserver details (same as Method 1).
  7. Click Save Changes or Update Nameservers.
